Matthew "Matt" Scott McVannel

Matthew "Matt" Scott McVannel of Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved father, son, brother, nephew, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, May 23, 2024. He was 58 years old. Matt was born on December 12, 1965, in Midland, Michigan, to Donald E. and Constance "Connie" M. (Fisher) McVannel. He was a proud 1984 graduate of Hemlock High School. Following graduation, he attended Michigan Technological University later transferring to Ferris State University where he received his Associate's Degree in Science. While on a blind date, he met Jill Gonyea. They were united in marriage on April 30, 1994, in Auburn, Michigan. Matt was employed with Dow Corning as a process operator, dedicating 26 years to the corporation. The role of his lifetime, one he treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a proud and loving father. Anyone that knew Matt knew he loved fast cars, especially his 2021 orange Chevrolet Camaro SS. Matt had a mechanical mind and enjoyed working and wrenching on cars, as well as having the patience and mindset to build both model cars and rockets. A collector of many things, he was mostly proud of his eclectic collection of Ray Ban sunglasses and knives. Matt also enjoyed being outdoors, shooting his guns, and hunting. Incredibly creative, he wrote many poems over the years and found peace and happiness when listening to music. Matt's little piece of heaven were his children, from coaching their soccer teams to spending quality time together, he loved them all beyond measure.

Surviving are four children: Kaylee McVannel and her fiancé, Mason Branigan of Mt. Pleasant; twin sons: Treavor McVannel of Panama City, FL; Taylor McVannel of Kalamazoo; Connor McVannel and his girlfriend, Emma Albrecht of Midland; mother, Connie McVannel of Hemlock; a brother, Steve McVannel of Gaylord; a sister, Cheryl McVannel of Hemlock; the mother of his children, Jill McVannel of Saginaw. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. McVannel; grandparents: Warnie and Lu McVannel; Robert and Eva Fisher. Honoring his family wishes, cremation has taken place.
