Melissa “Missy” Marie (Jimenez) Castillo of Grand Rapids, formerly of Saginaw,
Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, companion, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, November 30, 2020, at Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was 45 years old. Melissa Marie Jimenez was born on April 17, 1975, in Saginaw, Michigan, to David and Mary (Hernandez) Jimenez. She attended Valley Lutheran High School, Douglas J. Aveda Institute of East Lansing, and Vidal Sassoon School of Cosmetology in Los Angeles. Missy was employed with the United States Postal Service as a clerk and also served as their union representative. She was a beautiful, caring and loving soul that had a passion for dancing particularly to Mexican music and she loved to sew. Missy also enjoyed being near the water, whether it was swimming or kayaking, she found peace and tranquility relaxing in the sunlight. She treasured and cherished her two dogs and parrot: Big D., Hollywood, and Harley. Above all, Missy was of great faith in the Lord. She loved spending time with her dearest nieces, nephews, and cousins; she was a favorite to many. She will forever be remembered for her selflessness, her ability to connect with people, her great wit and sense of humor.
Surviving are her parents, David and Mary Jimenez of Saginaw; brother, David Michael (Beth) Jimenez of Saginaw; sister, Felicia Ann (Andre) Bitmayl of Columbus, OH; five special nieces and nephews: Brett Gorden of Las Angeles, CA; Alicia Jimenez of Auburn Hills; David Michael “Davy” Jimenez III of Saginaw; LizaMae Bitmayl of Columbus, OH; Lyon Edward Bitmayl of Columbus, OH; her companion of four years, Robert Meade of Byron Center; former spouse, Joe Castillo of Grand Rapids; and 13 aunts and uncles. Also, surviving are many dear cousins, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Matias and Remigia Hernandez and Jose Guadalupe and Delores Jimenez; two aunts: Sarah Jimenez and Deborah Kay Jimenez.
A private funeral will take place at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Pastor Toni Baranek will officiate. Honoring Missy’s wishes cremation will follow.
