Melvin E. “Mel” Keim of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 81 years old. Melvin E. Keim was born on September 1, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Melvin Gerald and Wanda M. (Smith) Keim. He was a proud 1961 graduate of Sparrows Point High School in Sparrows Point, Maryland. Following graduation, Melvin attended Essex Community College for two years to earn his roll turning apprenticeship. He met the love of his life, Sharyn D. Miller, while visiting his uncle and grandparents in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on January 31, 1966; she survives him. He was employed with Air Products Chemical where he operated plants in Saginaw and Midland, retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated service. Mel civically served his community as a volunteer fire fighter at MaVista Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a longtime member of the Pit and Balcony Theater Company where he gave countless hours working with all the lighting on set. Mel loved to travel across the United States and was an avid camper. He will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic and his pursuit of perfection, for being a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, for being the quintessential family man, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sharyn D. Keim of Saginaw; a daughter, Melissa (Bradley) McNally of Freeland; son, Melvin Glenn Keim of Ypsilanti; two grandchildren: Michael (Ash) Rodgers and Robin (Jeremy) Hunt; three great-grandchildren: Kai, Athena, and Damon; a sister-in-law, Deborah DeCock of Brentwood, CA. Also surviving are many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Wanda Keim.
A funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor David VanNorman will officiate. Honoring Melvin’s wishes, cremation will follow the service. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603 on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
