Melvin “Mel” Junior Brockett of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Monday, September 14, 2020. He was 78 years old. Melvin Junior Brockett was born on April 10, 1942, in Owosso, Michigan, to the late Marjorie (Swedberg) Brockett. He was a proud graduate of St. Charles High School. Following graduation, Mel honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He married the love of his life, Judith Ann Kaufman on August 7, 1965, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Saginaw; she survives him. Mel worked as a millwright with General Motors Malleable Iron for over 30 years before his retirement. He was an longtime active member of the Saginaw Field and Stream Club where he spent much time doing what he was passionate about, target shooting. Above all, Mel enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He treasured and cherished the many trips upstate and the priceless family memories made every holiday. Mel will forever be remembered for his selflessness, his kind and loving heart, and his excellent sense of humor.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Judith Ann Brockett of Saginaw; two daughters: Tammy (Craig) Boertman of Saginaw; Debra Sova of Saginaw; seven grandchildren: Hope Kaufman and her fiance, Ryan Andrews; Jeff Kaufman, Meg Kaufman, Brandon Sova, Ian Sova, Ashton Sova, and Kayla Sova; and a very close friend, Rick Wenzlick.
