Michael William Story of Saginaw passed away peacefully following a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. He was born August 23, 1965 to William Randall and Carmelyn (Cruson) Story in Jackson, Michigan. Mike grew up in Thomas Township and attended Swan Valley schools graduating in 1984. He was an athlete who played basketball and was a South-Paw (lefty) pitcher for the Swan Valley Vikings. Mike attended DeVry Institute of Technology following high school and graduated in 1986. He started working for (St. Luke’s) Covenant Healthcare in 1987 as a security guard and continued to work there for 33 years. The family would like to thank Covenant for their care and support of Mike.
Mike fought hard for a year to stay with us and with the light and love of his life, his daughter Lilly Belle Story. He considered Lilly his biggest accomplishment and demonstrated always that she was his life. His only regret was that he wouldn’t be here to see the woman that she will become.
Besides his parents and Lilly, Michael leaves behind his sister Lisa Griffus and her husband John, Lisa’s children Sara Weathers and Ian Griffus. His aunt Rosalie Solgat, uncle Gary and aunt Patricia Story, Norman and Evelyn Cruson, great-aunt Francis Capen and many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Clarence and Flora Story, Robert and Olivia Cruson and his uncle Clement Solgat.
Mike loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a great son, brother and friend. He enjoyed golf and had one heck of a swing. He kept his golf clubs and his cars in immaculate condition. His favorite times were spent with family and friends. His friends, Keith and Katie Carolan of Bay City, would have him up north for boating, bonfires and shenanigans. He and Lilly also loved spending time with her Godparents, Ron and Tammy Baumgartner of Dewitt. They enjoyed attending Wheatland Bluegrass Festival, Halloween at the campground and just being together. Mike’s family would like to thank Keith, Katie, Ron and Tammy and all of his friends for their love and friendship of “Big Mike.”
The family would like to thank Covenant Oncology, Covenant Infusion and Grace Hospice for their exceptional care of Michael. Special thanks to friends Cathy Hare and Gloria Dehart for their unwavering support. Your care and compassion helped the family through this very difficult time. We could not have gotten through it without you.
