Mildred Grace Wade Of Hemlock, MI Born to William and Helen Doyle on May 14, 1921, Mildred Grace Wade went to her heavenly home on May 25, 2019 at the age of 98 years. She leaves behind 5 children and their families: Connie (Mark) Richardson, Barbara (Matthew) Wardin, and Gary Wade of Hemlock, Brenda (Jerry) Gartzke of Howard City, and Lori (Bill) Britton of Elmira, MI. One sister, Joyce (Roy) Burdo of Hemlock survives her.
Milly loved to dance. As a young lady, she and a sister or friend would sometimes walk or bicycle miles on Sunday afternoons to dance at the Ravenna Gardens or Brownies in James Township. Milly worked at the Hemlock Creamery (later called Hemlock Co-op) wrapping butter and grading eggs. She pulled practical jokes on fellow employees, including Herbert Wade, who she would later marry April 17, 1948. Together they continued to go to dances for years; listening and dancing to all music, especially polkas.
After marrying, her first job outside the home was as a cook at the Frost Restaurant in Hemlock. She later became a substitute mail carrier for a rural route south of Hemlock. Milly was never idle. She crocheted, gardened, and canned her familys produce. She and Herb raised five children and helped each of them in any way they could. They both loved their 11 grandchildren and later, 20 great-grandchildren.
Milly was close to her sisters Frieda, Maxine, Mary Jean, and Joyce. The Doyle girls could often be found in laughter. As she aged, Mildred would repeat verses of poems or songs learned in her elementary years at St. Peter Lutheran Church and School. Her church was an important part of her life since childhood. Milly sang in the choir and loved to help with the baking and kitchen work for the church functions.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband Herbert L. Wade in 2017, and by her siblings: Frieda Beeley, Maxine Weiss, Lowell Doyle and Mary Jean Foye. With wonderful help from 9 caregivers, Mildred was able to live in her home in Hemlock until 5 months ago. Her family is thankful for the exemplary care given to her by the Hoyt Nursing and Rehab staff.
