Monroe "Jack" Crafton Lingle
of Sebewaing, Michigan (Formerly of Bridgeport)
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Frankenmuth, Michigan. He was 95 years old. Monroe Crafton Lingle was born on June 15, 1928, in Pollard, Arkansas, to the late John H. and Ethel (Holifield) Lingle. As a young boy he grew up picking cotton in the fields. When he was 15 years old, proudly served his country in the United States Navy serving from October 1944 to April 1946, during World War II, sailing on the U.S.S. Block Island. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Katherine Margaret Taulbee, they were united in marriage on January 28, 1947, in Lincoln Park, Michigan; she preceded him in death on December 11, 1996. He moved to Bridgeport, Michigan, where he built his own home by hand. In the 1950's, Jack was employed with Saginaw Steering Gear and Grey Iron Foundry, before becoming the owner and operator of the Lingle's Gulf Gas Station in Bridgeport, a full-service station that specialized in transmissions. From the late 1960's through 1980, he worked for Buryl Hill, a material handling company. Jack then became the owner and operator of his own business, Lingle Equipment in October of 1980, incorporating the corporation September 1, 1981, building it from the ground up. He was proud the business has stayed in the family ever since. Following the death of Katherine, Jack found a second love with Jane M. (Schindler) Van Arsdale. They were united in marriage on October 15, 2000; she preceded him in death on February 19, 2020. An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed the peace and tranquility fishing and boating brought to his life. Throughout his life, he enjoyed working on his Chris-Craft boats and refurbishing and painting his cars. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, but his little piece of heaven was living on the water with his boat in the backyard. He will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic, his ability to talk and communicate with all people, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many memories and stories.
