Beloved wife, and mother passed away peacefully in her bed at her home on Thursday, February 16, 2023; her family knows that Nancy is now singing, dancing, and loving all the sounds of being in the company of Jesus her Savior. At the age of 80 years.
The youngest daughter of three, Nancy was born on November 29, 1942, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Martin and Clara (Leinberger) Pfannes, Auburn, Michigan. She was baptized the following December. Nancy completed her confirmation classes in 1958, while attending Our Savior Lutheran Church for the Deaf. She attended Michigan School for the Deaf, Detroit, 1947 – 1958. Nancy then continued her education at the Flint School for the Deaf, 1958 – 1962. She worked at Made Rite Potatoes, before marrying Nathan L. Nicol on July 22, 1967; he survives her. Nancy then became a homemaker, housewife, and an assistant to him as Nathan started his TV repair business from their home. She worked at Vlasic Pickle Factory, Bridgeport from 1994 – 1998. They were both members of the deaf congregation that met at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Saginaw; until they joined the church family at Peace Lutheran Church, Saginaw. In July 1969, Nancy became a loving mother to their only child, Mary. She loved children, making people laugh, and to make them smile. She enjoyed teaching the ABCs in sign language, to anyone she met. In her free time, Nancy would sew, knit, and crochet; especially in her youth. She enjoyed baking, especially her zucchini bread and cake. Over the past years, she enjoyed watching the birds from their patio, and observing the progress of the garden Nathan was working on to keep them healthy.
Nancy was proud of everything her family did together, such as, projects or studying Scripture. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and to sing and sign the hymns. Nancy began to understand the Bible even more and truly understood exactly what Jesus did for all of us on the cross. She put her total trust In Jesus and believed with her whole heart that He shed his blood and died for her, He was buried, and three days later Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Nancy knew it was all about Jesus Christ and nothing she did or could do could to earn the love of God. We reminisced as a family about how the King James Bible Version was our only truth and we looked forward to the day when she will suddenly “hear” the trumpet of the rapture; or, when Nancy wakes up in Heaven with a new glorified body, and sees and hears Jesus!
Surviving besides her loving husband of 55 years, Nathan L. Nicol; their daughter and her husband: Mary and Robert Knight. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother: Donald (Darlene) Pfannes; sister: Luanne (Leonard) Vogtmann; father and mother-in-law: Lawrence and Martha Nicol; brothers-in-law: Daniel (Jeanette) Nicol, and Dennis Nicol.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48602. Rev. Henry G. Pahlkoetter II will officiate with burial to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at W. L.
