Nelda Maria Hinz (Thusnelda) Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at her home. Age 100 years. The daughter of the late Martha A. (Bienert) and Martin A. Salvner was born April 10, 1914 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Arthur A. Hinz, October 14, 1939. He passed away March 18, 1953. Nelda received her Bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University and her Masters of Library Science degree from the University of Michigan. She had been employed by the Saginaw Public Libraries as Head of the Reference Department and Assistant Director, retiring in 1979 with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Ladies Guild, a member of the choir for over 50 years, was active in the Evangelism programs and the Stephen Ministry. She was a member of the Valparaiso Guild; the American Association of University Women; the University of Michigan Alumni Association; Zonta International and the Retired Teachers Association. She was honored for her volunteering at the Saginaw Art Museum, Castle Museum and the Saginaw Historical Society. After retirement she helped several organizations catalog their libraries. She enjoyed traveling the world and reading. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Judith A. and Richard R. Zirkle, with whom she made her home; three grandsons and their wives, Brian and M. Sharon Zirkle, Newport, VA; Todd and Sharyn Zirkle, Suffolk, VA; Theron and Jennifer Zirkle, Saginaw, MI; four great grandchildren, Jahricca, Keira, Alyah and Shaina; a sister, Irma Hicks, Saginaw, MI; several nieces and nephews. A brother, Arnold Salvner, passed away in 2007. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. Saginaw. Rev. Paul Hinz will officiate with burial in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday and then at the Church from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of the funeral service. Because of extreme allergies of family members, it is requested no live flowers be sent and memorial contributions may be made to the Castle Museum; Saginaw Public Libraries; Peace Lutheran Church or Covenant V.N.A.
