Nicholas Theodore Makrianis "Nick" Saginaw, Michigan Passed away at the age of 89 years old on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at Covenant-Cooper after a brief illness. He was the son of the later Theodore and Julia (Zaharopoulos) Makrianis and was born on October 6th, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. Nick moved with his family to Saginaw, Michigan in the late 1930s and graduated from Saginaw High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. On June 24th, 1956 he married Grace Dadaou, his loving wife of 63 years who is left to cherish his memory. Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters, Julie Makrianis (Palm Desert,CA) , Peggy Nemode and her husband Thomas of Saginaw, MI, several nieces, nephews, friends and the family dog Bentley. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers and their wives, Peter Makrianis, Alexander and Bonnie Makrianis and Constantine (Gus) and Joanna Makrianis and a nephew, Theodore Alexander Makrianis. Nick owned and operated the Washington Restaurant in downtown Saginaw and then pursued a career in Real Estate. He owned N.T. Makrianis Real Estate and was a three-time president of the Saginaw Board of Realtors. Nick was so proud of his Greek Heritage and was an active member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, serving to help build the new church and start the Greek Festival. He was a member of AHEPA and American Legion Post #439. In his spare time, he loved to fish and hunt and spend time at his summer cottage. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17th, 2020 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Rd. Saginaw, MI. Rev. Fr. Timothy Cook will officiate with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with family at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Home, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16th,2020 where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
