Our beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on February 13, 2021, while at HealthSource Saginaw, following a lengthy battle with dementia. Norma was born February 7, 1928, to the late Aldis and Sarah (Lehman) Gerber.
Norma spent time in her life working in voluntary service through the Mennonite Church, as well as in nursing aide capacities both at Dunlap Memorial Hospital and Brenn Field Nursing Home in Orrville, Ohio. She spent years, as well, in office work with NRH Electric, a company part-owned by her husband, Leslie.
Norma enjoyed being outdoors, working around her home and yard, and for many years, working in her large gardens. Her greatest joy, however, was being present in the home for her family.
Norma is survived by her two children, Jill (David) Hogenson of Freeland, MI, and Dr. L. Alan (Merylee) Mumaw of Brighton, MI, along with Grandchildren, Stephen Hogenson, Atlanta, GA, and Brooke Hogenson, Freeland, MI, as well as Caitlin (Kyle) Breitmeyer of Farmington Hills, MI, Dr. Derek (Heather) Mumaw of Detroit, MI, and Graham (Amanda) Mumaw of Ocean City, NJ, as well as one Great Granddaughter, Hannah Mumaw of Ocean City, NJ.
Norma is also survived by two sisters, Anne (Jim) Rios of Brookfield, IL and Karen (Walt) Thieszen of Verona, WI. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Leslie, and brothers, Orris, Doyle, Herman and Harry Gerber, as well as sister, Barbara Murray.
Cremation will take place. Burial will be at Mt. Eaton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or HealthSource Saginaw. The family would like to thank the staff of HealthSource for their outstanding support and care for Norma.
