Patricia Welles

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Covenant Medical Center. She was 86 years old. Patricia was born on May 25, 1935 in Carsonville, Michigan to the late Patrick and Mildred (Basler) Lawler. She was a proud graduate of Deckerville High School, class of 1953. Following graduation, Patricia moved to Flint, Michigan to work at General Motors. She married Joseph Jefferson Welles, he preceded her in death. Patricia was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bridgeport. She was a social person, a conversationalist at heart, and enjoyed various forms of social gatherings with family and friends. She also enjoyed attending Sunday evening Polka Dances.
Patricia cherished her grandchildren; she loved to watch them grow. She enjoyed watching her grandson’s play baseball and putting puzzles together with her granddaughters, and playing cards with them all. She loved the outdoors, gardening, traveling, watching her birds and watching them fight with the squirrels. Patricia also enjoyed sitting around the bonfire and chatting.
She is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Eddie) Gearing of Troy, Michigan, her son John Welles of Bridgeport, Michigan and her grandchildren Haley Gearing, Chase Gearing, Sophia Welles and Jonas Welles. Her siblings Patrick (Carol) Lawler of Port Sanilac, Michigan and Marilyn Mattox of Minden City, Michigan also survive her. Her sister- in- law Mary Lawler of Snover, Michigan, many nieces and nephews and extended friends and family also survive her.
Patricia was predeceased by her granddaughter Josephine Welles and her siblings Delores Lieber- Czymbor, Wayne P. Lawler and brother- in- law Fred Mattox.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Pastor Bill Hessler will officiate. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of her granddaughter Josephine Welles.
