Patricia “Pat” Mary Sova of Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved “Pat”, “Aunt Pat”, sister, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. She was 81 years old. Patricia Mary Packard was born on February 8, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late George and Helen (Foote) Packard. She was a proud 1958 graduate of Saginaw High School. Following graduation, she attended college for one year. Pat married the love of her life, John “Jack” Sova on October 3, 1959; he preceded her in death on April 26, 2012. She was employed as a professional cleaner with various commercial cleaning companies over the years. Pat was creative and enjoyed working on crafts, especially crocheting. She made all of her nieces and nephews hats and mittens for Christmas. Wherever there was a craft show, Pat, always attended and participated in the events. She was such a talented crocheter, she often taught classes at JoAnn Fabric Store in Saginaw. Pat was a superb cook and extraordinary baker, knowing exactly how many cups of love, pinches of goodness, and dashes of kindness were needed to make everything taste great, especially her infamous “sunshine cake”. She was a longtime faithful and devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Pat experience much loss and tragedy throughout her life, yet always remained faithful, optimistic, and patient. Pat will forever be remembered for her beautiful laugh and sense of humor, her selflessness to people in need, and for the love she had for all animals, especially her cats and birds.

Surviving are a brother, Roger (Beverly) Packard of Traverse City; good friend and special neighbor, Mike Smith of Saginaw; caregiver of nine years, Marilyn; two special cousins, Sr. Yvonne Mary Loucks of Saginaw; Michele Lewis of Saginaw; sister-in-law, Wanda Packard of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Sova; daughter, Mary Theresa (Brian) Carpenter; two brothers, Thomas and George Packard.

A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
