Paul Dennis Dell passed away after a heroic fight against cancer on April 14th in Saginaw
Michigan. He was 80 years old.
Born on September 5, 1943 in Flint, MI, to Cecil and Margaret Dell, Paul was a graduate of
Alpena High School, Alpena Community College and Central Michigan University. He was a
devoted alumnus and enjoyed many reunions and sharing time with so many classmates through
the years.
Although Paul's talents and endless joy of learning could have led him to success in many
different fields, he found his heart's passion in teaching others. He spent much of his career as a
teacher of drafting, electricity, and other industrial arts, first in Carrollton and then later at
Thunder Bay Junior High and Senior High in Alpena. Shortly before retiring, he found a second
wind in the classroom by spending his final years as a physical education teacher, something that
suited his spirit and energy even as a senior educator. Paul retired from teaching after 37 years
and touched the lives of hundreds of his precious students and his beloved colleagues.
Paul loved the many seasons and scenic places of our world, whether waterskiing in Grand Lake,
hiking the American West, or simply hopping on one of his motorcycles and seeing where the
road would take him. Like his parents before him, a love of travel, our beautiful planet, and the
creatures around him never failed to catch Paul's eye.
When not enjoying adventures with his family and friends, you could find Paul helping a
neighbor with a problem that frequently involved mud, hard work, little direction or all of the
above. Paul's sharp mind and willingness to experiment were exceeded only by his tireless
energy or wry smile for those around him when the going was tough. His greatest devotion in
later years was to his grandchildren and the days he spent being silly, kind and gentle in their
company.
Paul was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Gordon Dell (Dolores). He is survived by
his loving wife, Beatrice, his children Kyle Dell (Erin), Kim Wingerter (Tony), and
grandchildren Sam Dell, Phoebe Dell, Emma Wingerter and Kara Wingerter.
His family will always cherish the time we had him and will forever look to the joy, gentleness
and loving devotion he brought to those near and far in his life. His presence, laugh and soft
heart are treasures we will miss each day.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held at a later date.
