Paul James Cassow II of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, April 26, 2025. He was 65 years old. Paul James Cassow II was born on March 9, 1960, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Paul James and Judy (Hildinger) Cassow. He was a proud 1978 graduate of Carrollton High School. Through mutual friends, he met the love of his life, Tammy Sue Hughes. They dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on May 16, 1998, in Saginaw; she survives him. Paul worked as a truck driver for Stevens Van Lines for many years and was most recently employed as a security guard at Duggan’s Family Campground in Port Austin, Michigan. The role he loved the most, one he treasured and cherished, was to be a loving and devoted husband, father, and especially a grandfather. Paul was a man of exacting standards, and meticulous in all he did. Whether it was working on his cars or tackling life’s challenges, he approached everything with precision. He was independent by nature, found value working by himself, and always did things on his own terms. Paul enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, and traveling on cruises to all the warm places. His little piece of heaven was equally shared by spending time with his grandchildren as well as being up at Duggan’s Family Campground in Port Austin. He will forever be remembered for his competitiveness when playing video games, for pranking and picking on his grandchildren, and for his strong-will and selflessness to anyone in need.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Tammy Sue Cassow of Saginaw; five children: Paul “P.J.” Cassow III of Panama City, FL; Aarika Cassow of Saginaw; Alicia (James) Dodge of Saginaw; Brandon Cassow of Montrose; Amber Cassow of Saginaw; four grandchildren: Emma Jastrzemski, Kaidence Cassow, Cyrus Dodge, and Gavin Dodge; a sister-in-law, Marjorie “Margie” Cassow of Freeland; father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Jean Hughes of Saginaw; a brother-in-law, Steve (Shannon) Hughes of ND. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Judy Cassow; a son, Jeffrey Pool; a grandson, Alex Dodge; and his siblings: Willowdean Engleman, Cathy Cassow, and Edward “Chip” Cassow.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate.
