Penelope Metropoulos

Penelope Metropoulos Saginaw, Michigan Went home to the Lord on July 27, 2018, at the age of 89 years. Most precious and adored mother of Effie (Richard Batch), Katherine Elizabeth and daughter-in-law, Susan; proud grandmother of Chloe (Andrea) and Miranda Batch; dearest sister of Louis (Marguerite) Chiatalas; beloved aunt, cousin and friend. The family would like to thank all the fine staff at HealthSource Saginaw for their care of Penelope. Penelope was born to the late John and Styliane (Koursaris) Tsiatalas on October 26, 1928, in Rentina, Karditsa, Greece. She moved with her family to the U.S. in 1947. In 1955 she married George K. Metropoulos in Athens, Greece. They then made their home in Bay City and later Saginaw. George predeceased her in 2000. Penelope was also predeceased by her unforgettable treasure of a son, Demetrios in 2016; her revered brother, Dr. George Tsiatalas in 2017; her sister-in-law, Eva Tsiatalas in 2018; her siblings that passed away as young children in Greece: Elias, Katina and Eleni Tsiatalas. Penny was a devout Christian and longtime faithful, tireless member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. In 2015 she received the outstanding parishioner award from the Metropolitan of Detroit. She was a professional cook and worked in several restaurants, most notably for 26 years at Marshall Fields (Macys) in the Fashion Square Mall. Penelope was famous for her fabulous cooking and was constantly sharing her delicacies with everyone she knew. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 4970 Mackinaw Rd. Fr. Timothy Cook will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday where the family will gather at 7:00 p.m. for a Trisagion service. Visitation will also take place at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Penelope wished that in lieu of flowers any expressions of sympathy be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
