Passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Ascension St. Marys Hospital. Age 85 years.
The son of the late George and Vasiliki (Heotis) Metropoulos was born May 15, 1934 in Messene, Messenia, Greece, coming to Pontiac, Michigan in 1948. He was a graduate of Pontiac High School and served with the U. S. Army. Pete married Maria Skentzos, March 18, 1956. His wife of 63 years survives him. He was in the retail shoe business for many years and was known as "Pete the Shoe Man". He owned and operated the shoe department at Edwards Mens Shop. Pete was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, serving as an Altar Assistant under 5 priests, a member and Parish Council President, and a member and past president of AHEPA. He was a life-member of American Legion Post #439. He enjoyed gardening and photography. Surviving besides his wife, Maria, are three sons and their wives, George and Michelle Metropoulos, Sam and Joan Metropoulos, Adam and Elizabeth Metropoulos,four grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Tina and Dr. Kristian Koller; Pete and Sarah Metropoulos; Stefan and Candelaria Metropoulos, Kallista Metropoulos; three great-grandchildren, Eliana Claire and Alexander Koller, Sebastian Andrew Metropoulos; two sisters, Anastasia Kremmithiotou and Maria and Mimi Mbenou; a nephew and his wife, George and Anna Metropoulos; several other nieces, nephews and other relatives. A brother and his wife, John and Vlasia (Soula) Metropoulos have predeceased him.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Rd. Fr. Timothy Cook will officiate with Military burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the auspices of American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday where the Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the Church from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the funeral service. We were blessed to have had "our special angel", Michelle Metropoulos RN, care for her dear Papa (Pete).
