Peter John Veremis

Veremis, Peter J. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Covenant Cooper. Age 86 years. He was born May 15, 1929, in the village of Zevgolatio, Greece, the son of the late John and Sophia (Gargalionis) Veremis. He served in the Greek Army prior to moving to the United States in 1962. He returned to Greece to marry Kanella Kostouros September 5, 1967, and they returned to the United States at that time. He had been employed by Mahon Industries for twenty years, retiring in 1984. He was a strong man of faith as a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and was a member of AHEPA. He enjoyed working with his hands, helping others and painting. He also enjoyed gardening, working in his apple orchard, and sharing his harvest. Surviving are his wife, Kanella; one son, one daughter and four grandchildren, John Veremis and his children, Peter and Lily, Saginaw; Sophia and her husband Andrew Shinn, and their children, Angelo and Kanella, Ann Arbor; three brothers and two sisters, George Veremis, Greece, Thomas and Irene Veremis, Matina Ioannidis, Theodore and Georgia Veremis, all of Saginaw; Demetra and John Liambotis, Canada; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by another sister, Sophia Papst and by his step-mother, Margo Veremis. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Fr. Timothy Cook will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, where a Trisagion service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
