Philip L. Hammis Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away surrounded by his family on March 17, 2017. Age 82 years. Phil was born January 6, 1935, in Saginaw, the son of the late Philip and Elaine (Gavit) Hammis. He graduated from Holy Family High School and attended an electronics school. He opened his own business, Television Village in 1953, where he continued working in his final days with the help of his grandson, Ryan. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he enjoyed attending their school and sporting events. He built his cottage on Townline Lake in 1964, where he spent many years with family and friends. Phil was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Parish, St. Stephen Catholic Church. He was always a strong supporter of Catholic Schools and served for many years as the President of the St. Stephen High School Athletic Association and worked the St. Stephen Bingo for thirty years. In 1996, Phil was inducted into the Saginaw Catholic Schools Hall of Fame. He married Margaret Sova on May 5, 1956 at Holy Family Catholic Church. She survives him. Surviving are his wife, Margaret, and four children, Lori A. Hammis, Gregory (Cathy) Hammis, Janet (James) Dey, all of Saginaw; and Marc (Kris) Hammis, Swartz Creek; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Ryan Hammis; Bradley and Katie Dey; Sydney and Dylan Hammis; brothers and sisters, Keith (Pat) Hammis, James (Carolyn) Hammis, Elaine (Tom) Rau, Diana Garno, Joanne Rivette. He was predeceased by brothers George and David Hammis, sister-in-law Nancy Hammis and brother-in-law Donald Garno. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at St. Dominic Catholic Parish, St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw Rd. Street. Rev. Steven Gavit will officiate. Phil's family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 3:00 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21st where a parish vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Andrew S. LaFramboise and Sharon Wahl officiating. Family and friends may then gather at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
