Valtierra, Prudencio "Lencho" Saginaw, Michigan Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed on to his heavenly home early Friday, July 3, 2015, at the age of 91 years. He was born on September 21, 1923, the son of the late Tomas and Concepcion (Martinez) Valtierra, in East Chicago, Indiana. He moved to Mexico as a young child where he was raised by his grandmother, returning to the United States as a young man. He had been employed by General Motors Grey Iron Foundry, retiring after 40 years of service, and had been a member of UAW Local 668. He enjoyed working in landscaping for many years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church, and of the Cursillo Movement. He was previously a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a self-taught mechanic, and enjoyed working on his own vehicles and other projects. Lencho was a devoted family man, holding his family in great esteem. He helped many families and others become US Citizens and gain employment, many of those people now enjoying retirement. He married Maria Amparo Ramos on January 15, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; she predeceased him on August 20, 2002. Surviving are his children, Mary Ellen "Nena" Valtierra Moreno, Lansing; Thomas (Linda) Valtierra, Saginaw; Gerard Valtierra, Round Rock, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Valtierra, Lansing; his grandchildren, Gina (Rico), Miranda (fianc Steven), Melissa (Andy), Rick (fiance Lydia), Monica (friend Michael), Ashley, Nicca (fianc Josh), and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Biyanka, Antonio, Yazmin, Katarina, Dominique "Lupita", Ricky Jr., Cameron, Jayden, Thomas, Nicholas, Brooklyn, Noah and Olivia; one brother, Adolfo (Alvina) Valtierra; many nieces and nephews and their families, including a special niece, Teresa Ornelas. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one son, Richard Valtierra, a daughter-in-law, Sandie Valtierra; three sisters, Maria (Crispin) Munoz, Carmen (Victor) Munoz, Idelfonsa "Felipa" (Anselmo) Mendoza; infant sister, Maria, and infant brother, Adolfo. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3680 S. Washington Street. Rev. Fr. Thomas Schmied, O.F.M., Cap., will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends at church, from 2:00 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, where a parish vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends may also gather at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
