Vasold, Mr. Raymond E., Saginaw, Michigan Raymond E. Vasold went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the age of 94. Born April 15, 1919 the son of Herbert and Catherine (Benham) Vasold, Raymond was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agriculture from Michigan State University. After a brief career in construction, Raymond joined the U.S. Army, serving heroically in WWII (Silver Star & two Bronze Stars), concluding his military service as a Major in the army reserve, with 24 years of service. On January 16, 1944, while on leave from Camp Shelby, Raymond married Helene M. Ruthig. After the war, the couple settled in Flint, Michigan, moving to Saginaw a few years later. Raymond was employed by Michigan State University as County Agricultural Agent and, later, County Extension Director, retiring with over 25 years of service. He then worked another decade as a full-time electrician for K & H Electric. A founding and active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, a LACE board member and a member of People to People, Raymond enjoyed woodworking, gardening, travel and family. After more than sixty years of marriage, Helene passed away November 1, 2005. Surviving are a son, a daughter and their spouses, Terrance Ray and Joan Vasold, Saginaw, MI; Janine Ann and Richard Holcomb, Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Larry Shoup, Albuquerque, NM; Michelle and Anthony Crowder, Milwaukee, WI; Steven and Sadie Jo Vasold, Houston, TX; David Vasold, Brooklyn, NY; Jereme Swain, Fort Lauderdale, FL; 9 great grandchildren, Emily, Abby and Alex Shoup; Nathaniel and Lucas Crowder; Benjamin, Lydia, Madeline and brand new baby boy Vasold; a sister, Margaret Leaman, Saginaw, MI; and his dear friend, Virginia Haas. A brother, Kenneth, has predeceased him. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Michael Nitz, will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 5051 McCarty Rd. Saginaw. The burial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday in the Vasold Family Cemetery in Freeland. Friends may call at the W.L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 and then on Friday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
