Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Age 85 years.
He was born on December 11, 1933, son of the late Pilar DeLeon and Angelina (Franco) and Polo Trejo, in San Marcos, Texas. Sonny married Consuelo Teneyuque on April 7, 1952. She survives him. He retired as a truck driver from Joe Danin Wool Company after many years of service. Sonny enjoyed playing hardball and softball in the Saginaw Mexican American League, fishing, bowling, golfing and spending time with his loving family. He will be remembered for making people laugh with his great sense of humor and the ability to connect with people.
Sonny will be missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Consuelo DeLeon; children, Raymond "Bobby" (Irma) DeLeon, Nancy (Randy) Wellman, Juan "Johnny" DeLeon, Edward (Grace) DeLeon and Jose "Joe" (Annette) DeLeon; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Mary Jane, Josie, Pauline, Lilly, Luis, Gilbert, Chano, Henry, Rick and Tony; also many other special relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Ruben DeLeon and sister, Guadalupe Guerra.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave. Fr. Joseph Schabel will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present for a prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. and also at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family, c/o Consuelo DeLeon.
