Richard A. Lorentzen

Lorentzen, Richard A. Saginaw, Michigan Rick passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the age of 72 years. He was born June 15, 1943 to Paul G. and Lois Lorena (Smith) Lorentzen in Detroit. He graduated from Elkton High School, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Michigan State University in 1966. After graduating, he had been employed by Ernst and Ernst C.P.A. firm in Detroit. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Finance Corps in January of 1967, and was stationed with the Central Finance and Accounting Office in Heidelberg, Germany, completing his two year commitment in January of 1969. He was honorably discharged in 1973 with the rank of Captain. Following his military service in 1969, he joined the family business, St. Charles Lumber Products, in a management position with his father. Rick was named President of the company in 1980, following his father's death. He later sold the business. After all of these years, former employees would visit with him at his home, telling Rick that he was the best boss they ever had. Rick was active in the community with Right to Life of Saginaw County, United Way, the School Committees of St. Thomas Aquinas and Nouvel Catholic Central, the Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club, the Shields Lions Club, and was currently serving on the Thomas Township Planning Commission, which he had served for the past 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kathy Lorentzen; four sons, Jason Lorentzen, Allan (Kelly) Lorentzen, Fr. Christopher Coman and Michael Coman. Rick was very active in the boys' sporting events. When the youngest one graduated, he said to his wife, "What do we do on Friday nights now?" because Rick and his wife were used to going to basketball games every Friday night. He also leaves two grandchildren, Josh and Madeline, and his brother, John Lorentzen. Besides his parents, Paul and Lois Lorentzen, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Lorentzen. Christopher Coman, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew Cemetery, Saginaw, with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #439.
