Passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, at his home. Age 87 years. The son of the late William and Matilda Moffett was born February 8, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Marion Bean, December 30, 1950. She passed away May 1, 1998. Later he married Betty L. VanHaaren, November 30, 2013. She survives him. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in Alaska during WWII. He was a Journeyman Electrician and a life-long union member of the I.B.E.W. Local 557. He was a member and served as treasurer of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Saginaw Township. He was a Red Cross Volunteer. Richard was a person of many interests including playing the violin, building and flying air controlled World War I model airplanes. He was an avid learner, attending many classes on a variety of subjects. Surviving besides his wife, Betty, are three children, Kris Moffett; Richard Moffett; Kathleen Moffett Harwood and her husband, Ken; his grandchildren and their spouses, Rachel and Nick Schmitt; Christa Bartz; Alisha and Nick Burkhalter; Chris and Eileen Harwood; Megan and Ryan Ehlert; Daniel and Brittany Moffett; Marion Moffett; Matthew Moffett; Sean Moffett; his great grandchildren, Alex, Danielle, Jackson, Eleanor and Arthur; His step-children, Jackie VanHaaren; John VanHaaren; Jim VanHaaren and his wife, Janice; Dawn VanHaaren; his step-grandchildren, Courtney, Branden, Tricia, Christina, Jennifer, James, Brian, Cassy, James and John; a brother, Thomas (Tom) Moffett; a brother-in-law, Robert Freisorger; a sister-in-law, Bertha Bean; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Daisey Turner, Blanch Baranic, Evelyn Husen and four brothers, Donald, William, Roy and Richard Moffett. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 4705 Brockway Rd. Saginaw. Rev. Daniel P. Garbow will officiate with Military entombment in Chapel Hill Mausoleum under the auspices of V.F.W. Post # 1859. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday and then at the Church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
