Passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 29, 2017 surrounded by family after a lengthy illness at the age of 70 years. The son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Little) Stoddard was born on May 30, 1947 in Saginaw. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Richard married Carol Woolf on December 13, 1978; she survives him. He retired from GM after 36 years of service. Richard enjoyed fishing, camping and card games. Surviving besides his wife, Carol, are their children: Matthew (Victoria) Stoddard, Andrea (John) Schlader, Jennifer (Ryan) Stoddard-Fitzgerald, his beloved granddaughter: Allison Stoddard, his sister Patricia (Melvin) Muehlenbeck, sister-in-law Mary Stoddard, his niece Robin Kritzman along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick Stoddard and sister Shirley Stoddard. The family would like to thank the special caregivers at Heartland: Amy, Belinda and Cheryl for all the loving care they gave Richard. Also a huge thank you to Hometown nurse Kelly and aid Louise for the help they gave Richard and his family. Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Josh Bernard will officiate with military honors. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics Area 22.
