Dick passed away peacefully Friday, January 15, 2016, at Cartwright Hospice at 79 years of age. He was born on June 15, 1936, to Francis and Helen (Barrett) Drinan in Saginaw where he lived his whole life. Survived by his brothers Francis Drinan and James Drinan; daughters Lori Drinan, Lisa Cozzolino; step daughters Pam Coates, Kathy (Paul) Luther, and Sandy Eaton; two grandchildren Matthew (Brianne) Asuan, Cristy Cozzolino and one great grandson Cooper Mason Asuan; nephew Tom (Lori) Drinan, their children Mackensie and TJ; niece Jennifer Drinan; and partner Kathy Ihler. Predeceased by sister in law Dixie (Jim) Drinan, Sandy (Frank) Drinan and former wife Irene Drinan. Dick attended St. Andrew's High School where he was an outstanding athlete receiving All State class B honors in basketball, where he established a school record for a season's individual scoring record of a single game (scoring 48 points), single season and career points. He also played tennis while at St. Andrews, and won the Mt. Pleasant regional singles championship qualifying for the state finals; and in Saginaw he won several city junior singles tennis tournaments and six city open doubles titles. He was also a member of the National Honors Society. While attending Western Michigan University, Dick played basketball and tennis. He later graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in English and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. He received a master's degree from Central Michigan University in journalism. Dick served in the U.S. Army in the Counter Intelligence Corps at the Army Intelligence Center at Fort Holabird, MD. At his discharge he was senior military editor of publications of the Army Intelligence School. Dick's career in advertising included working at Breen Advertising and later he had his own advertising agency. He retired in 2010 from ClearRiver Communications in Midland. Visitation is scheduled at Case Funeral Home, 4480 Mackinaw Street at Shattuck, on Tuesday, January 19th from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Covenant Visiting Nurse Association, Cartwright Hospice, or The Public Libraries of Saginaw.
