Richard “Dick” Jonothan Tyson, Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at his home. He was 77 years old. Richard Jonothan Tyson Jr. was born on June 26, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Richard Leroy and Dorothy Elizabeth (Ackerman) Tyson. He attended Carrollton Public Schools and later Jackson High School. Dick married the love of his life, Helen Keay Letson on July 10, 1965, in Saginaw, Michigan; she survives him. He was employed as a truck driver with Kerry Transport for many years until his retirement in 2016. Dick and Helen were former members of St. John Lutheran Church on Federal Ave. He enjoyed NASCAR, football, barbecuing with family and friends, and riding his Harley motorcycles. Above all, Dick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He proudly attended school events they had without question. He will forever be remembered for his excellent sense of humor and for every little nickname he gave to those he loved.
Surviving are his wife, Helen K. Tyson of Saginaw; four sons: Devon (Sandy) Tyson of Detroit; Ricky (Cathy) Tyson of Saginaw; Michael (Juliann) Tyson of Glennie; Steven (Kelly) Tyson of Bay City; daughter, Cheryl Tyson of Detroit; nine grandchildren: Nichole Tyson, Shawn (Trevon) Drake, Aurora Tyson and her fiancé Tyler Dijak, Felecia Tyson, Rickie Tyson and her fiancé Ramon Ledbetter, Jacob Tyson and his fiancée Merhia Adrian, Paige Tyson, Kayla Russet, and Amber Stevens, nine great-grandchildren: Harper, Ka’Miyah, Adrianna, Gunner, Sutton, Azaela, Zhavia, Toni, and Ivy; sister, Rhonda Ehlert of Freeland; brother, Henry Tyson of Carrollton. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shawn Marie Tyson; grandson, Gary Stevens; great-granddaughter, Aubrianna Tyson; brother, David Tyson; sister, Barbara (Robert) Forbes; sister-in-law, Janet Tyson; brother-in-law, William Ehlert.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Calvary Community Church, 2895 E. Moore Rd. Rev. Gary Vander Veen will officiate. Honoring Dick’s wishes cremation has taken place. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
