Richard Von Wagner

Richard Wagner of Saginaw

Passed away on Thursday, September 15th, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born on August 23rd, 1938, in Saginaw, to the late Michael & Ester (Symons) Wagner, and was a 1957 graduate of Saginaw High School. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1966 and spent his working years at General Motors, retiring in 1998 after 35 years. He met Ann Wiles on a blind date arranged by her stepbrother and as they say, “the rest is history.” The couple would marry on October 17th, 1964, and spend over 40 years together. She preceded him in death on October 26th, 2006. In his free time, Richard enjoyed watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing cards with family. It was his family that he truly cherished, spending as much time with them as possible; he never missed one of his grandkids’ sporting events. Richard is remembered as being a gentle and caring man who would give you the shirt off his back, and as “the most kindhearted and honest person you’d ever meet.”

Richard is survived by daughter Lisa (Gary) Kade; grandchildren Ryan Kade, Austin Kade, Michael (Haley) Wagner, and Ashley Wagner; girlfriend of many years Janice Cohee; siblings Nick (Linda) Wagner, Lena (James) Mavis, and Betty Gendron; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by son David Wagner; siblings Albert (Fran) Wagner, Laurence (Joyce) Wagner, William (Mildred) Wagner, Alexander (Madeline) Wagner, Michael (Fran) Wagner, Mary (Roy) Bennett, Henriette (Ernie) Naylor, and Theodore Gendron.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare & Heartland Hospice.
