Rita L. McAllister of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, May 23, 2020. She was 91 years old. Rita Louise Vallier was born on March 23, 1929, to the late Edward and Clara (Proton) Vallier. She was a proud graduate of Engadine High School. Following graduation, Rita moved and settled in Saginaw where she met William B. McAllister, Jr. They were united in marriage on August 21, 1948, in Saginaw; celebrating 43 years until he preceded her in death on January 11, 1990. Throughout her life, Rita always remained independent, active and was always on the go. She was a dedicated and loyal employee working for Julius Clothing Store, Morley Brothers, and for AT&T (Ameritech) retiring in 1994 after 15 years of service. Following retirement, Rita also worked for the Texas Rangers Spring Training Camp in Florida, and for 7 ½ years as a greeter with Walmart; retiring at the age of 82 years. She was a faithful member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Christ the Good Shepherd Parish. Rita enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, and playing cards, especially Euchre. She also treasured and cherished the countless times she was able to spend with her beloved friends. Above all, Rita loved spending time with her family. She will forever be remembered for her indomitable spirit and for all the love and kindness showed to anyone that’s ever loved or cared about her.
Surviving are six children: William B. (Kathleen) McAllister III of Hemlock; Charlene Norris of Saginaw; Karen McAllister of Saginaw; Kay Cader of Bentley; Kathryn (Lee) Scharich of Saginaw; JoAnn McAllister of Sidney, OH; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Vincent (Rose) Vallier of Saginaw; Francis Vallier of Portland. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, James McAllister; two sons-in-law, Larry Norris and Norm Cader; five brothers and three sisters: Edmund Vallier; Bernard Vallier; Lawrence Vallier; Maryellen Sadovich; Wayne Vallier; Shirley Frontino; Janice Penton; and Kenneth Vallier.
A private funeral service will take place with Rev. Matthew Federico officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove.
