Robert Benedict O'Toole

O'Toole, Robert Benedict Merrill, Michigan Robert Benedict O'Toole passed away peacefully on March 30, 2015 at the age of 92 at Edgewood Assisted Living Center in Saginaw, MI. A gentle, loving, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. "Bob" was born November 20, 1922 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Benedict and Mary (Phalen) O'Toole. He married Doreen (Bigelow) O'Toole on April 27, 1946. They were married for 67 wonderful years before she passed away on January 11, 2013. Bob worked at Dow Corning Corporation and farmed in the Merrill area with his brother Bill for many years. He retired from Dow in 1984. He was an active lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an Honorary Life member of The Knights of Columbus in Merrill. Bob enjoyed traveling, Detroit Tiger baseball games, and spending the winters in Lakeland, FL. He will be deeply missed by the family that gave him such great joy children: Connie (Rick) Kettelhohn, Maureen O'Toole both of Saginaw, Terry O'Toole of Hemlock, Chris (Julie) O'Toole of Broomfield, CO and Michelle (Marty) Lass of Chaska, MN; grandchildren: Carrie (Ken) Fox, Chad (Christine) Tolfree, Courtney (Bill) Johnson, Shawn (Catherine) O'Toole, Michael (Jenna) O'Toole, Molly and Brady Lass; great-grandchildren: Dawson, Carter, and Camden Fox, Drew and Sara Tolfree, Liam and Quinn Johnson, Elliot and Zoey O'Toole; one sister, Sr. Marie Benedict O'Toole; many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Bob was preceded in death by three brothers, and five sisters: Dominic O'Toole, Fr. Aloysius O'Toole, William O'Toole, Elizabeth Beyer, Patricia Wurtzel, Dorothy Rousseau, Sr. Marie O'Toole and Grace Dean. Funeral liturgy and a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at St. John XXIII-Sacred Heart Church in Merrill, Michigan with entombment to follow at St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at W. L. Case Funeral Home, 125 E. Saginaw Street, Merrill, Michigan. The rosary will be prayed by the Merrill/Hemlock Knights of Columbus at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff at Edgewood Assisted Living Center for all the wonderful care shown to both Bob and Doreen over the last 4 years.
