Passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 11, 2018. Age 82 years. The son of the late Marie (Bishop) and Leo Thompson was born September 23, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Saginaw High School and served with the U.S. Army. He married Lois (Elbers) Trieb, August 13, 1988. She passed away November 20, 2010. Robert was employed by General Motors, Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring with over 35 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 699. He enjoyed hunting and going to the casino. Robert was an avid baseball fan, having season tickets to the Loons and arriving early to each game to hand out baseballs to children attending. Surviving are four children and their spouses, Michael and Cynthia Thompson; Brenda and Ralph Klepinger; Sue Thompson; Kelly Thompson-Manyen; four grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Melissa Klepinger; Stefanie and Jeffrey Fackler; Anthony Thompson; Marissa Manyen; one great granddaughter, Makenzie Klepinger; several step-children, nieces, nephews and his beloved dog and companion, Louie. One brother and five sisters have predeceased him. Funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Hwy. Friends may visit with relatives from Noon Friday until the time of the funeral service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to contribute to a memorial to be at the Loons Baseball Park or the American Diabetes Assoc.
