Robert “Joe” Angus Bierlein of Saginaw, Michigan,
Beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, July 12, in the year of our Lord 2022. He was 74 years old. Robert Angus Bierlein was born on September 17, in the year of our Lord 1947, in Mecosta County, Michigan to the late Robert George and Eunice Ruth (Ball) Bierlein. He was a 1965 graduate of Barrington High School. Following graduation, Joe proudly served his country as truck driver in the United States Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge as a Vietnam Veteran in 1968. Upon his return he worked for General Motors and married the former Shelly Barker in 1968. Joe also worked as a forklift driver with Turner Bear Door Company and built boats for Thompson Boats for many years. He later married Sally (Shaffer) Kowalski; she preceded him in death on February 12, in the year of our Lord 1999. Joe was a loving and devoted participant of the Shepherd’s Chapel on television and faithfully attended Old Town Christian Outreach Center. He loved anything to do with hotrods and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Above all, he loved and cherished his family, friends, and his beloved cat, Kitty. Forever a free spirit, Joe, will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic, defending and protecting the underdog, knowing and preaching the Bible, and for living truly an amazing life.
Surviving are five children: Joey, Cassy, Kenneth, James, and Bryan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Armbruster. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Bierlein; parents, a son, James; parents, Robert and Eunice Bierlein; a brother Vernon “Mike” Bierlein, and brother-in-law, John Armbruster.
Honoring Joe’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Old Town Christian Outreach Center, 600 Gratiot Ave. Pastor Bill Bodnar will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #439.
