Phillips, Robert L. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at his home, at the age of 85 years. He was born November 29, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia, the son of the late John E. and Carrie Louise (Kitchner) Phillips. He graduated from Hampton High School and served with the US Air Force in the Korean War. He married Earleen J. Schell of Saginaw on December 19, 1953; she predeceased him February 12, 1999. He later married Judith M. Feusse November 3, 2000; she predeceased him July 14, 2015. He retired from General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear after 30 years of service. He and his wife Earleen also operated antique businesses in Saginaw and Merrill for many years. He was very active with the Saginaw Children's Zoo Carousel Project, and was one of the carvers. He had attended Peace Lutheran Church. He was especially proud of his Scottish heritage. Surviving are three children, John and Catherine Phillips, Midland; Lori and Bruce Newvine, Merrill; Julee and Tom Schultz, Whitmore Lake, MI; ten grandchildren: Lauren and Paige Phillips, Shannon Ward, Jordan (fiance Kolina) Ward, Julie (Justin) Miles, Kimberly (Drew) Garno, Marcus (Hayley) Newvine, Lesley Beyersdorf, Hillary Hawkes, and Clayton Schultz; seven great-granddaughters and one great-grandson, Kamryn, Kaleigh, Caroline, Jada, Jenna, Gwen, Gavyn and Bentley; a brother-in-law, John "Jack" Pool and one nephew, John (Kathy) Pool, and their family. He also leaves three stepchildren and their families. He was also predeceased by his birth mother, Josephine Munro, and by a sister-in-law, Jerian Pool. His family is especially grateful to his special caregiver and granddaughter, Shannon Ward. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, where his family will receive friends from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and then on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Matthew Hauser will officiate. Military committal services will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
