Robert “Bob” “Mort” Michael Hickey of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 5, 2020, at his home. He was 70 years old. Robert Michael Hickey was born on May 5, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Donald and Patricia (Brown) Hickey. He was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation, Bob was drafted into the United States Arny and honorably served his country from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he briefly worked for a year at General Motors Grey Iron, before beginning a 30 year career at AT&T, retiring as a linesman. Bob was a former member of VFW Post #1566 where he supported and participated in many club gatherings. He was an avid outdoorsman where he lived and breathed hunting and fishing. Above all, Bob loved and cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters: Lisa (John) Martin of Bay City; Katie (Scott) Nellett of Freeland; five grandchildren: Trevor Martin, Alexus Nellett (Princess), Scott Nellett Jr, Carter Martin, and Taylor Martin; sister, Karen Gharib of Saginaw; sister-in-law, Marsha Hickey of Traverse City. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Greg Hickey.
A private Committal Service and Military Honors under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post 1566 will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 N. Center Road, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 4 – Saginaw, 5190 Weiss Street, Saginaw, Michigan, 48603.
