Robert N. Johnson

Johnson, Robert N. (Bob) Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Monday, December 16, 2013. Age 84 years. The son of the late L. Roy and Beatrice (Collier) Johnson, Robert was born on February 16, 1929 in Saginaw. Bob grew up on the east side and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1947. After attending Bay City Junior College and working at Morley Brothers and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., he proudly served in the U. S. army during the Korean War. He married his soul-mate, May (Popp) Johnson, in 1974 and enjoyed many years of love, laughter and their mutual appreciation for jazz music until her passing in March 2000. Bob found his "true calling" after joining Saginaw Steering Gear where he was employed for over 28 years. Upon his retirement in 1994, Bob (called "Doc" by many) was honored by the State of Michigan House of Representatives for his commitment and many contributions to worker welfare as an EAP Rep at SSG. Bob was a member of UAW Local 699, American Legion Post 22, Hemlock-Merrill VFW Post #7302 and the Korean War Veterans Association. Surviving family members are his daughter, Debra Kay Johnson; grandson, Nathan Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine, of Raleigh, NC; his stepson, Ed Duncan; daughter-in-law, Barb Duncan; grandchildren, Sam Duncan, Sarah Duncan, Malinda (Jon) Massung and Steven Bishop; great grandchildren, Maddie, Micah, Lucas, Brianna and Nicholas, all of Saginaw; a son, Scott Fortune and granddaughters, Maria and Christina; two nephews Tom (Pam) Johnson and Gary (Sherri) Johnson and their families. In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Johnson; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth (June) Johnson and nephew, Richard Johnson. Bob's family extends special thanks to the Covenant Hospital nursing staff and the many special friendsfrom the "mall walkers" to the Spencer's Restaurant staff for their care and concern. Memorial service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Swan Valley United Methodist Church, 9265 Geddes Rd., Saginaw, MI, 48609. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate.
