Officer Robert "Rob" J. Neilson passed away Tuesday May 16, 2023, with his family at his side.  Age 58 years.  Rob was born in Saginaw, on September 12, 1964.  He attended school in Saginaw and graduated from the  Delta College Police Academy. Rob had a distinguished career in Law Enforcement, serving on the Saginaw Police Department, Birch Run Village Police Department, and the majority of his career with the Frankenmuth Police Department.

During his career Rob was recognized for his service, having received multiple lifesaving awards, the Birch Run Police Officer of the Year award, in addition to many Department accolades.  He also served as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Field Training Officer, a member of the Police Honor Guard  and a Medical First Responder to name a few. 

Rob married the former Karen Haines on May 14, 1988.  She survives him.  He is also survived by one son, Evan (Samantha) of Lennon; one daughter, Karleigh of Frankenmuth; two grandchildren, Easton and Eleanor.  He also leaves one sister, Beth Neilson, one sister-in-law, Deborah Haines, two brothers-in-law, Richard (Suzette Gerard) Haines and Scott (Barbara) Haines.  He was predeceased by his mother Sharon Glover, his in-laws Richard and Sally Haines, sister, Lisa, and nephew, Ajay.

The family would especially like to thank Heather and all of the Doctors at the U of M Medical Center and the Caregivers of Covenant Visiting Nurses Association for all of their dedicated care to Rob during his illness.

A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison, Saginaw. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Home, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw and at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Saginaw County 100 Club, or the First Presbyterian Church of Saginaw, in Rob's memory. Envelopes will be available.
