Passed away surrounded by his family on November 22, 2019. He was 92 years old. Robert was born on July 15, 1927 to the late Carl and Edna (Bertling) Fischer in Saginaw. He was a 1945 graduate of Arthur Hill and attended Bay City Junior College. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. During his service he received a Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Schomaker on July 12, 1952 in Saginaw; she survives him. They shared 67 happy years of marriage. Robert was employed in sales at Draper Chevrolet, was a unit manager at Commercial Credit, and was a Sears credit manager and sales representative in Bay City, retiring in 1989 after 37 years of service. He was a volunteer at Luther Manor Samaratas, a member of the Sears Retiree Club and was one of the five founding members of the Saginaw Landlord Associates and was a landlord for over 25 years. Robert couldnt sit still; he was a handy man and was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed staying at the family cabin, boating, classic cars, his bowling league at State Lanes, playing pool and being involved in his church. Robert also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren whenever he could; he was the "family glue."
Along with his wife, Robert is survived by four children, Carl (Lorna) Fischer, Kathy (Robert) Buda, Deborah Fischer, and Robert (Karen) Fischer; five grandchildren, Adam (Edith) Fischer, Ashley (Timothy) Kinnamon, Kathryn Fischer, Jordan Fischer, and Jeffrey Fischer; five great-grandchildren, Avery Fischer, Kayle Fischer, Ainsley Fischer, Harley Birchett, and Harper Birchett; a sister, Clara Fehrman; brother-in-law, William Korthals; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a great-grandson, Grayson Birchett; a brother, Carl Fischer; and a sister, Darothy Korthals.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 2525 Hemmeter Road, Saginaw. Rev. Rob Schmidt will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service.
