Robert "Hortner" Gaertner

Gaertner, Robert "Hortner" Freeland, MI Passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, at Covenant-Harrison at the age of 87 years. Robert was born January 7, 1926, in Saginaw, MI to the late Robert and Gladys (Engle) Gaertner. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during WWII. He retired from Malleable Iron. Robert loved his grandchildren, gardening, and being outdoors. He enjoyed tending to his grass and flowers and took great pride in their appearance. He was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. He is survived by five generations of family, his children, Gladys Meyer, Penny Erdman, Barbara Daniels, Betty (Harry) Hart, and Bob Gaertner; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale Gaertner and Bruce Gaertner; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Pauline (Holstrom) Gaertner, and sister, Lorraine Duffield. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at W.L. Case & Company 201 N. Miller Rd. Chaplain Doug Bassett will officiate the service.
