Flores, Roberto O. Sr. Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away peacefully at his residence, under the care of Hospice and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Age 91 years.
Roberto O. Flores, Sr. was born August 13, 1921 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to the late Andres and Rafaela (Ortiz) Flores. He married Raquela Martinez on January 1, 1944, and together they came to Saginaw in 1949. She predeceased him on July 15, 1995. Roberto was employed by GM Saginaw Malleable for 27 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of UAW Local 455 and served as Sergeant-at-Arms for Union Civica Mexicana for over 35 years. He was also a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and belonged to Los Cursillistas and the Men's Club. He also a past member and usher at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Roberto had enjoyed Bingo and dancing, was a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, participated in the YMCA Senior Citizen Speed walking competitions (winning numerous medals) and spent many hours visiting the sick at their home or the hospital. He loved having coffee every morning at McDonald's with his compardres (friends) and enjoyed the fellowship. His motto was "Keep Moving".
Roberto is survived by two children, Roberto (Consuelo) Flores Jr., and Rosa M. (Donald) Valliant; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tom) Wirtz, Katherine (Daniel) Ortiz, Deborah Flores, Jaime Torrez, Vanessa Valliant, Brigette Valliant, Jayla Flores, Francisco (Diana) Perez III, Julio Perez, and Francisco Flores; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great, great-grandchildren; a brother, Ruben O. Flores, Sr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters, Rudy Flores, Roger Flores, Homer Flores, Andres Flores, Juan Flores, Basaliza Gallegos, and Solia O'Con.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 915 N. 6th St. Saginaw, MI. Rev. Fr. Frank Voris, OFM Cap will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
