Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the age of 82 years. The son of the late Al Simanskey and Marilyn Simanskey (Beneway) was born on May 28, 1941 in Midland MI. He graduated from Central Michigan University. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Rod was an avid hunter and loved being in the woods and nature. He taught his step-son and grandsons how to hunt and fish. Next is a note from his youngest Grandson which shows how Rod was: The day has come where heaven gained another angel. We lost a great man, a beautiful soul and the greatest life teacher, Grandpa Rod. From hunting and fishing with him for many weeks at a time, working on the cabin and the 88 acres of hunting property, showing a young man what it's like to prosper with anything given to him. I'll always remember casting some poles with him and watching his excitement grow as the lines get tight and the keepers hit the dock. Or hunting in the tall shed and getting a doe so big we both couldn't pull her. The way he took care of the land. From a young age I didn't realize how much he instilled in my brain. I cannot thank Grandpa Rod enough for his time with me and his guiding light. Until we meet again save some deer up there Big Guy. Signed William Wallace Stender IV.

Surviving are his spouse, Joan Simanskey, and step-children: Matthew Shann, Dawn Shann and Michele Stender, grandchildren: Dayton Auer, Ashley Wilson, Kara Treichel, Markus Shann, Eric Zolinski Jr., William Stender IV, Taya Stender, six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
