Ronald Thomas Schumacher, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family. Ronald was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on December 17, 1935, to William Albert Schumacher and Marjorie Ann (Manning) Schumacher. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service, Ronald married the love of his life, Joyce Edith Abler, on February 15, 1957.
Ronald was a member of the American Legion Post 468. He dedicated 21 years to working with Saginaw Traffic Engineering and over 30 years with Kavanaugh Trucking. Ronald had a passion for collecting coins, stamps, and sporting cards. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, gardening or camping. He also spent many hours woodworking, carving, and doing puzzles. Ronald also had fun nights bowling with his brothers on their team. Many of his happiest moments were spent listening to and singing along with favorite music. Above all, Ronald cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Ronald is survived by his four children, Tammy Whitman, Debra Decatur, Suzanne (Donald) Tinglan, and Ronald Schumacher Jr.; grandchildren, Anthony (Stephenie) Tafoya, Andrew Tafoya (Hailey Vollmer), Sarah (Joshua) Terrian, Corey (Trisha) Whitman, Kristen (Michael) Scherzer, Ashley Tafoya, Jacob Peterson, and Bradley (Kim) Peterson; great-grandchildren, Logan, Gunner, McKenzie, Isabella, Bay, Roselyn, Parker, Emily, Hudson, Kal, Kaison, Hayes, Dahlia, and Arianna. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Pool, his brother, Dennis (Lou Ann) Schumacher; sisters-in-law, Judy and Patricia Schumacher; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, June Stone.
Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Schumacher; his parents, William and Marjorie Schumacher; his brothers, William, James, Richard, and John Schumacher; his brother-in-law, Wayne Pool and his sister-in-law, Sharon Schumacher; and a special cousin Judy Jesse.
A heartfelt thank you to the VNA Hospice, VA staff, especially Julian, Krista, Mary Ellen, and Dr. Lupo.
Honoring Ronald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place in the chapel at Roselawn Memorial Gardens located at 950 N Center Rd, Saginaw, MI 48638, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Ronald’s nephew, Richard Schumacher Jr. will officiate. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw.
