Ronald Edward Spica, born on June 4, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan, died on December 31, 2023, in Midland, Michigan. Ron raised his family in St. Charles, MI and lived over twenty years in Titusville, FL. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother.
Ron led a fulfilling career as a salesperson for RP Lewis and Huntington Laboratory. In addition, Ron served his country in the United States Air Force stationed in England. The values instilled in him during his military service remained with him throughout his life. Ron was a dedicated member of the American Legion.
During his leisure time, Ron’s passion was focused heavily on sports. As a youngster Ron would walk miles from his Saginaw home to make his way to Hoyt Park to practice his love of speedskating. In turn, Ron was an accomplished athlete, he held several state titles from his alma mater Saginaw High School in the area of speed skating and swimming. Ron played football at CMU for a brief time before entering the military. Ron also was an exceptional Baseball player who was drafted to the Boston Red Sox's Triple A minor league team. Notably, while serving in the Air Force, Ron had the honor of winning the Softball World Series when stationed in England. Throughout his life Ron loved to be on the golf course and was an avid sport enthusiast.
Ron is survived by his children Scott Spica (Kathy) Midland, MI, Stephanie Izzo (Rodney) Venice, FL; grandchildren Carmen Izzo Austin, TX, Veronica Izzo, Sarasota, FL, and Scott Spica, Midland, MI; sibling Terry Fuller (Esther); and a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Eimers Fuller (Spica) and father Edward Spica. Although he may no longer be physically present among us today, Ronald's memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of his surviving family and friends.
He led a life filled with love, dedication, and countless achievements. He approached every aspect of his life with integrity, passion and most of all fun! His strength, wisdom, and warm-hearted nature touched the lives of all those fortunate enough to have known him. His grandchildren will always have a special place in their heart for their Florida “Grandpa Mickey Mouse”.
A memorial service celebrating Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
