RoseMarie Abbott

RoseMarie Abbott of Freeland, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. She was 90 years old. RoseMarie Shannon was born on November 19, 1931, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Joseph E. and Genevieve (Haselton) Shannon. She was a 1951 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. RoseMarie married Edward J. “Pete” Abbott in 1970; he preceded her in death on December 26, 2007. RoseMarie had excellent fashion sense and used her skills working at Jacobson’s in the late 1960’s. She then chose to stay at home to take care of her daughter and husband. RoseMarie was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Throughout her life she was an avid collector of fine arts and paintings. RoseMarie lived to spend her summers at the island cottage in LesCheneaux; in which she was the self-proclaimed mayor of LaSalle Island. She left her indelible mark on this world through a wonderful sense of humor, her selflessness in helping other people, and for the love she had for her family and friends.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter: Edward Walker of Allendale; Timothy Walker of Newberry; Jerry Walker of Grand Rapids; Shannon (Travis) Henige of Freeland; four grandchildren: Eddie (Sara) Walker, Brian (Heidi) Walker, Dennis Walker, Jimmy Henige; four great-grandchildren: Emma, Hanna, Tyler, and Bradley Walker; special friends: Carol Kietzman, Betty Stalker, Frank and Betty Rose, Sylvia and Jack Ferguson, Pam and Ken Sawyer, and Antionette Zanata. Also surviving are many of her beloved island family of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Abbott; parents, Joseph and Genevieve Haselton.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the numerous nurses and aides who tended to RoseMarie throughout her stay at Covenant HealthCare.
