Ruth H. Bader was born March 30, 1929, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late William S. and Helen (Schultz) Bader. She graduated from St. Andrew High School with the Class of 1947, and met her future husband, Thomas W. McDonald Sr., there. After high school, Ruth attended Mercy College and worked as a service representative at Michigan Bell Telephone. Ruth and Tom were married on March 31, 1951. Tom predeceased her May 18, 2014. While a young wife and mother, Ruth graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelor Degree in Business and Marketing, and a second Bachelor Degree in Automotive Marketing. With her husband, Ruth owned and managed McDonald Nursery since 1963. Ruth was also involved with McDonald Cadillac GMC and McDonald Ford. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a member of the Thomas Township Planning Commission for twenty-five years. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Saginaw Valley Rehabilitation Center (SVRC), St. Mary’s of Michigan Foundation, and the Chamber of Commerce. Ruth was a devoted and involved mother to her children.
Surviving are two sons, three daughters, and their spouses, Thomas W. (Denise) McDonald Jr; Kathleen (Mark) DeWitt; Diane (Thadeus) Stawiarska; Jody (Bob) Rider; Bill (Andrea) McDonald; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, one brother and their spouses, Constance (Jack) Rehmann; Barbara (Jack) Eastman; Thomas E. (Bethany) Bader; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, parents and a brother, William J. Bader.
The funeral liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave. Saginaw, MI. Rev. Randy Kelly will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may visit with family at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022 and then at the church from 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the funeral liturgy.
