Ruth E. (Staver) Freeland Saginaw, Michigan Passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017, at the age of 97 years. Ruth was born January 17, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John and Ida (Putjell) Staver. Her family returned to the Saginaw area when she was three years old. She graduated from Saginaw High in 1937 and the Michigan Academy of Art in 1939. She worked for Staver Brothers Printing until they closed. She married Harmon Freeland on May 17, 1941; he predeceased her on November 10, 1979. She was a life-time member of the Methodist Church attending Warren Ave, Sheridan Ave., Kochville United Methodist, and was currently at First United Methodist Church. While she was a member she was in the choir, a soloist, and education director. She served the Detroit Conference Women Society for 5 years, president, treasurer, historian of Saginaw Church Women United, Project Director for recruiting girls for Job Corps and newsletter editor for several local groups. She enjoyed genealogy, photography, and creating poetry for special occasions. She was a member of the Saginaw Genealogy Society. She is survived by her children, James Freeland and Janet Freeland; grandsons, John Freeland, James Freeland; great-grandsons, Julius Freeland, Tyler Thornton, and Justin Thornton; and her sister Susan Hazard. She was predeceased by her brothers, Duane Staver and John Staver, Jr.; son Gerald Freeland; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Freeland. Funeral services will take place at 12:00 noon Monday, April 3, 2017, at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Pastor Amy Terhune will officiate with private burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry Freeland memorial scholarship, Mid-Michigan Community College Foundation or to the Saginaw First United Methodist Church. www.casefuneralhome.com
