Sally Kay Kilts passed on May 9, 2015 at her home in Thomas Township. She was 73 years old. Sally Kay Schatz was born June 28, 1941 in Lafayette, Indiana to Frederick and Kathryn Schatz. She is survived by her brother and his wife, Robert and Susan Schatz of Bloomington, Indiana. Sally so loved her younger brother and was proud of all he's accomplished in his life. Bob also provided great emotional and practical support for Sally and was always there when she needed him. After graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Sally entered the field of journalism and was an Assistant News Editor at The Saginaw News for 36 years. The focus of her work was on lifestyle and fashion interests. It was at the News where she met Donald Kilts and was charmed by his intellect, dashing good looks, and quirky sense of humor. They were married on May 20, 1986 and lived merrily together until his passing in 2005. Our gal Sal loved her family and all types of crittersbirds, fish, cats and dogs. Her backyard was a great pride for her and it was both beautiful and a wildlife sanctuary. Sally also loved broadway musicals, and she experienced two of her favorites on Broadway with Don, "Cats" and "The Phantom of the Opera." And when visiting Sally at Christmas, one would often see her in tears while listening to a cranked up version of Josh Groban's "O Holy Night." Sally is also survived by Don's seven offspring: Jerry and Mikke Kilts of Empire, Michigan: Clint and Gayla Kilts of Little Rock, Arkansas; Georgeann Packard and Dianne Wood of Mattituck, New York; Darcy Deming of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Dana and Irene Kilts of Saginaw; Paula Kilts and Tim Findling of Newfield, New York; and Jason and Priscilla Kilts of Durham, North Carolina. Jason spent a good part of his childhood under the loving care of Sally and his father in their home in Thomas Township. It must be added that after her husband passed, Sally's life was made comfortable and enjoyable by the impressive and dedicated support lovingly provided by Darcy, Dana and Irene. She could not have survived without them and the entire family thanks them for giving them all those added years with Sal.She is also survived by a loving crowd of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all miss her warmth and humor. In a message from Sally to her family that will be read at her upcoming memorial service, she ends with these words: "Goodbye. All my love, Sally." Tender and to the point, Sally in a nutshell. www.casefuneralhome.com
