Samuel “Sam” W. Soriteu of Bay City, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at his home with his family by his side. He was 77 years old. Samuel Wesley Soriteu was born on December 20, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Samuel and Betty (Emeott) Soriteu. He was a 1960 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Sam proudly served his country by enlisting into the United States AirForce from 1962 – 1966, where he served as a medic in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, Sam received various awards and commendations. He married the love of his life, Sue Ann Wrege on May 26, 1995, at Apple Mountain in Freeland; she survives him. He worked in production for 30 years with General Motors – Delphi before his retirement. Sam enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, bowling, NASCAR, and playing guitar. He found peace and tranquility sitting on his deck watching the boats head down the river. Above all, he loved and cherished his family. He will forever be remembered for his love and kindness for all animals, his dry sense of humor, and for his being a detail oriented soul.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Sue Ann Soriteu of Bay City; five children: Rick Soriteu of Freeland; Kimberly Watkins of Freeland; Kip Meserva of Saginaw; Martin Wrege of Saginaw; Jason Wrege of Essexville; six grandchildren: Sean, Jessica, Krystal, Madison, Brady, and Bailey, five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Donna (Ronald) Fries of Saginaw; Kathy McLellan of Saginaw; Shirley Ann (Rob) Stevens of Bay City; a spoiled rotten yorkie, Bella Ru. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Weiss; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Weiss and Robert McLellan.
A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Rev. Julie Bailey will officiate. Military Honors and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the United States Air Force and American Legion Post #439. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Due to restrictions set forth by the State of Michigan and the worldwide health pandemic, all visitors are require to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to their local humane society.
