Sandra Jane Meyer Alexander

Sandra Jane Meyer Alexander, 80, passed away on May 1st, 2015 in Traverse City, MI. She was born in Saginaw, MI, on July 7th, 1934 to the late Victor and Mollie (Krenz) Meyer. Sandra married Jack Alexander of Saginaw, MI, September 3rd, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1960, they built a house in Saginaw where they raised their children and lived for 48 years. She was a member of Saginaw Valley Antique Society, Scottish Terrier Club of Michigan, and Germania Club. Sandra and Jack retired to Lake Ann, MI in 2007, where they enjoyed watching sunsets on the deck at the cottage, observing bufflehead ducks, loons, bald eagles, and other wildlife. A special pleasure was seeing the family enjoying activities such as fishing off the dock, boating, riding in the pontoon boat, canoeing, and wake boarding. In 2014, they moved to Traverse City to be closer to family. Sandra wanted everyone to know, "Our proudest accomplishment was raising our two daughters, Lynn, a graduate of Lake Superior State University, and Libby, who graduated from University of Michigan. They, in turn, raised four treasured grandchildren. Hannah, University of California, San Diego, is teaching 3rd grade in Seattle, WA. Jacob will graduate with his electrical engineering degree from UCLA in June. Jackson is a National Merit Scholar and plans to attend the University of Michigan College of Engineering in the fall. Teddy, an honor student at Traverse City Central High School, has appeared in many local theater productions." Sandra's passion was antique collecting and selling. She was extremely knowledgeable about their value and history. She loved the camaraderie with other antique collectors and was a member of The Questers, Wequetong #781, of Traverse City, MI. Having a booth at the annual Mackinaw City Antique Show gave her great joy, and she had many friendships with the buyers and other dealers over the years. Surviving are husband, Jack, daughter Lynn (Eric) Collins of Mission Viejo, CA, daughter Elizabeth "Libby" (Dr. Douglas) McKay of Traverse City, MI, granddaughter Hannah Collins (fianc Andrea Benetti) of Seattle, WA, grandsons Jacob Collins of Mission Viejo, CA, Jackson and Theodore McKay of Traverse City, MI, and brother Gerald (Jackie) Meyer of Orange Park, FL. Also surviving are dear friends Michael and Kathi Smith and Virginia McKenna of Saginaw, MI, Pat Conklin of Cedar, MI, and faithful companion, Laddie the Scottish Terrier. She was predeceased by a son, Mark David Alexander, 03/05/57 12/21/63, and a brother, John Allen Meyer. Collecting beach glass and smooth stones at the water's edge, she will always walk with us. A private graveside service was held at Oakwood Cemetery in Saginaw, MI. Funeral arrangements were provided by W. L. Case and Company Funeral Home.
