Shirley Deane Call

Shirley D. Call  formerly of Saginaw

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Horizon Senior Living in St. Helen. She was 87 years old. Shirley D. Garno was born on October 31, 1935, in Midland, Michigan to the late Calvin J. and Bertha V. (Momier) Garno. She was a proud 1953 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Shirley met the love of her life, Robert W. Call, while in High School. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on November 30, 1957; he preceded her in death on April 6, 2022. She attended beauty school and obtained her cosmetology license where she practiced for over 50 years. The role of her lifetime, and one she treasured and cherished, was to be a loving and devoted wife and mother. Shirley and Bob were gifted and talented crafters. They enjoyed traveling throughout the state selling their beautifully designed quilts and handcrafted woodwork creations. Though it was a lot of work, Shirley loved staying busy by sewing and painting their crafts. She also enjoyed snowmobiling, spending time at their home in Roscommon, and being with her family. Above all, Shirley loved and adored her grandchildren. They were the light of her life and made her soul feel complete, especially when baking cupcakes, cookies, and cakes. She will forever be remembered for her kind, caring, and generous heart, for loving all children unconditionally, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are her children: Sherry VanHorn and fiancé of Danny Morrison of St. Helen; Kipp and Erin Call of Roscommon; three grandchildren: Michael (Carla) Van Horn, Molly (Raymond) Thompson, and Owen Call; a sister, Marion (James) Trier of Saginaw; three sisters-in-law, Patt (Gerald) Bourbina, Diane Garno, and Julie Garno; brother-in-law, Richard (Maureen) Call. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Darren W. Call; her siblings, Dorothy Kapke, Don Garno, Eleanor Trahan, and Duane Garno.
