Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 89 years. Shirley was born on February 12, 1935, in Saginaw, MI to the late Elmer and Lucy (Dill) Otter. She was a graduate of Hemlock High School, class of 1953. Shirley married Glenn Cunningham on October 20, 1956. She was an active member of Nelson United Methodist Church for over 80 years. Throughout her life she was involved with 4-H and enjoyed sewing and baking. The role that she cherished above all else was being a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, which she extended beyond her own family to her exchange students and many "adopted" children and grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sallie (Robert) Lewicki, grandchildren: Tiffany (AJ Thomas) Smith, Crystal Lewicki, Robert "Bobby" Lewicki Jr. and Josephine Ermel; great-grandchildren: Zachary Smith, Easton Yuchasz, and Helena Ermel; and sister, Joy Milks. She is also survived by special friends: Suzie Sheltraw, Vicki Blake, Diann Simons, Erma LaHaie, Carl and Sharon Zabel, and Lisa Horswill; special cousin, Betty Konsdorf, special nieces and nephews: Suzie Shapiro, Linda Lee, Mark and David Williams, Debbie, Lori and Tim Cunningham, Jamie and Tara Milks; great-nephews: Oliver and Archer Milks, her beloved dog Toby, as well as several special cousins.
Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Glenn Cunningham, grandchildren: Nichole Smith, Jason Smith; great-grandbaby Smith, brother Larry Otter, sisters-in-law: Florence Williams, Charlene Erickson and Donna Ader; brothers-in-law: Richard Milks and George Cunningham; special cousin, Lori Otter, and great-niece Lucy Milks.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Nelson United Methodist Church, 5950 S. Hemlock Rd, Hemlock, Michigan, 48626. Rev. Robert Richards will officiate. Honoring Shirley's wishes cremation will take place after services. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to the American Diabetes Association, National Farmers Union, or to the wishes of the family c/o Sallie Lewicki.
